About KiraDulu
A free personal finance site for Malaysians. We help you see the real numbers before the big decisions: buying a home or a car, taking a loan, or putting money into an investment.
Hi, I'm Dan
"Kira dulu" is something a lot of us grew up hearing at home. Work it out first. Before you sign, before you pay, before you say yes to the salesperson.
It's simple advice, but it's surprisingly hard to follow. The numbers behind a home, a car or a loan are spread across lawyers' quotes, bank letters and Budget speeches, and nobody sits you down to add them all up. Plenty of people only find out the real cost after they've signed.
I've worked in a bank and as a real estate agent, and I've run my own online businesses. I'm now studying finance at Wawasan Open University. KiraDulu is where I put all of that to use: clear calculators and honest guides that do the adding up for you.
What KiraDulu is, and what it isn't
KiraDulu is
- Free to use, with no sign-up
- Written for Malaysians, using Malaysian rules and real ringgit examples
- A place to understand your options and prepare better questions
- Dated, so you always know how current the figures are
KiraDulu isn't
- A law firm, and it doesn't give legal advice
- A bank, and it doesn't lend money
- A licensed financial adviser, and it doesn't tell you what to invest in
- Selling you a product
How we keep the numbers right
- We work from the official rules. Legal fees come from the Solicitors' Remuneration Order 2023, stamp duty from the Stamp Act 1949, and exemptions from the Budget announcements. We link to sources on every guide.
- We have property figures checked by a practising lawyer. Before a property calculator goes live, a practising conveyancing lawyer reviews the figures.
- We date everything. Each calculator and guide shows when it was last checked. Rules usually change with the Budget, and we re-check after every one.
- We show our working. The calculator explains each line, so you don't have to take our word for it.
If you spot something that looks wrong, please tell us at hello@kiradulu.net. We'll check it and fix it quickly.
If you'd like to speak to a lawyer
Some people use the calculator and then want a proper quote. If you tick the box asking for that on our form, we'll pass your details to a conveyancing lawyer, who will get in touch with you directly. You don't pay KiraDulu anything, and you're under no obligation to go ahead.
We only share your details if you tick that box. Using the calculator, or asking for a PDF copy, never puts you in touch with anyone. You can read exactly how we handle your information in our privacy notice.
What's coming next
Property came first: there are now two calculators and five guides on buying, selling, refinancing, renting out and owning a home. Cars, personal loans and credit, investing, everyday money, big purchases and EPF are next, added one at a time once they've been checked properly.
